Troop 48 has a unique view on summer camp. In our opinion if there is somewhere we really would like to explore and there isn’t a Scout camp nearby then let’s make our own camp and create our own program of fun and adventure.
Back in 2008 we toured the battlefields of Virginia with a trip to the National Mall in Washington DC by train thrown in along with lots of swimming and merit badge classes offered by our own leaders. We dubbed this one “The History Tour.” The next year we headed north and set up camp on Penobscot Bay on the coast of Maine. The week was filled with canoe trips, deep sea fishing, kayaking, beach fun and lobster dinners, and plenty of merit badges and scout skills. What else could you call it but “The Maine Event.” Year three saw is back in Virginia visiting the National Jamboree at Fort A.P. HIll for the 100th Anniversary of Scouting followed by a week at Camp Rodney on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay where we enjoyed motor boating, sailing, water skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, shotgun shooting and too much more to mention. Last summer found us in three different places in North America: Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Camp Barton in New York State, and Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario Canada.
